Got scholarships? Come one, come all. Marian University is the place to be, especially for incoming freshmen. 99% of full-time first-time students receive scholarships and grants. There are six academic scholarships at Marian. All of these are applied for within the application for admission to the university.
First, the Saint Mary Academic Scholarship. It is a full-tuition scholarship. 3.90+ GPA requirement. It is very competitive. It requires completion of resume and essay by invitation. Students must gain admission by November 15 in order to be eligible. According to Kim Marks, a 1985 Marian graduate and financial aid specialist, only 8 students received this scholarship last year. However, most that applied but did not receive it were awarded more than the Saint Francis academic scholarship.
Second, the Saint Francis Academic Scholarship. $18,000 is awarded. 3.90+ GPA requirement.
Third, the Saint Clare Academic Scholarship. $16,000 is awarded. 3.75‒3.89 GPA requirement.
Fourth, the Mother Theresa Hackelmeier Academic Scholarship. $13,000 is awarded. 3.50‒3.74 GPA requirement.
Fifth, the Oldenburg Academic Scholarship. $10,000. GPA 3.25-3.49 requirement.
Last but certainly not least, the Assisi Academic Scholarship. $8,000 is awarded. 3.00‒3.24 GPA requirement.
All GPA requirements are cumulative. You can find more information on the Marian website here. Each of the above scholarships are awarded at the time of admission, meaning one doesn’t need to put in an extra application. Kim Marks’ tip for students who want scholarships is to achieve good grades during high school.
When asked what advice she would give to prospective students, Briannah Bieghler, 2017 MU graduate and current freshmen admissions counselor said “Keep checking back with your guidance office to see if there are any new scholarship postings.”
As for current students, Bieghler recommended speaking with your admissions counselor/the financial aid office about external scholarships. Both Bieghler and Marks suggest using the website fastweb.com, a site where students can apply for external scholarships. Be sure to visit the financial aid office, they keep a binder full of FastWeb scholarship opportunities. Other scholarships at Marian are typically applied at the time of admission.
Marian University has resources online and off for both prospective and incoming students. For more information about scholarship opportunities, call the Marian University financial aid office at (800) 834-5494 or the financial aid website.
