INDIANAPOLIS — When Trey Gibson walked across the stage to graduate from Marian University last May, his mind was already set on the future—not just for himself, but for those who would follow in his footsteps. With a degree in marketing and a minor in Spanish, Gibson, now a Project Coordinator at Resultant, uses his journey to inspire others, especially Black students looking for guidance and representation in the professional world.
Gibson is part of the Orr Fellowship, an elite program placing Indiana’s top graduates in pivotal roles with innovative companies. “The Orr Fellowship is a game-changer,” Gibson said. “I want to see more Marian students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds—know about it and take advantage of it.” The fellowship has fueled his professional growth, but his heart remains with the Marian community, where he continues to inspire students and return for speaking engagements.
For Gibson, staying connected to Marian’s campus has been a priority. His involvement started during his years as a student when he advocated for peers throughout his college career. Whether it was mentoring incoming students as an orientation leader, serving as Vice President in the American Marketing Association (AMA), or guiding his team to win second place in the AMA Case Competition this year; Trey demonstrates remarkable dedication, leadership, and is an inspiration to all.
“I never saw myself as a mentor,” Gibson shared. “I just viewed myself as Trey. Trusting God and being me has got me a long way.”
His approach resonates with current students, who value his humility and sincerity. Matthew Stockdale, a junior majoring in Engineering Physics, noted how his story has encouraged his own journey. “Trey’s story shows me that I can do it, too,” she said. “It’s inspiring to see someone who looks like me succeed and come back to support others.”
Gibson’s message to students is simple yet powerful: “If you want something, chase it. Step out on faith, and if it’s meant for you, go for it,” he advised. His words echo a resilience that encourages students to push through doubts and seize the moment.
Brandy Bast, Director of Curricular Integration at Marian’s career center, the Exchange, was one of the first to celebrate Gibson’s new journey. “Trey’s success is a testament to his determination and heart,” she said. “He is not only shown our students that they can reach new heights, but he’s made it a mission to bring others up with him. I couldn’t be prouder of the path he’s paving for future leaders.”
