Big news today in Marian University Softball!  Marian University will host the opening round of the NAIA National Softball Championships Opening Rounds.  This is big news for the Marian University Softball team and MU as a whole.  While Marian University is no stranger to hosting championship events for the NAIA in Basketball, Soccer, and Volleyball, this is the first time that it will host the National Softball Championship Opening Rounds. The National Softball Championship joins Crossroads Bowling Championships, Women’s Soccer Nationals, and Cross Country Championships this year alone.  Not to mention that the Crossroads League Track and Field Championships will be hosted at Marian next week.

Marian joins Baker, Cumberlands, Freed-Hardeman, Georgia Gwinnett, Oklahoma City, Oregon Tech, and South Oregon among others as host sites for the opening rounds.  Games at the Marian Softball Diamond start on May 15 and go until the 17th.  The schedule of teams and games will be released at a later date.  All games will be broadcast live as usual on ISC Sports Network.

What does this mean for the MU Softball team?  Well, there could be a chance MU plays at home in the opening round!  The Knights sit at 42-6 on the year, on top of the Crossroads conference.  Starting May 3rd, they enter the Crossroads League tournament competing against other inner conferences rivals like Indiana Wesleyan and Mount Vernon Nazarene.  After this, it’s the opening rounds, and the Knights definitely have a shot at winning the NAIA World Series this year.
