The Asian Student Association (ASA) hosted Henna Night on Nov. 21 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Unity Center of Clare Hall. The second annual event for Marian students to experience creating henna masterpieces on their own arms and hands. ASA also provided small canvases for students who would prefer to be creative with acrylic paint and a brush than make body art.

Before all the fun began, Linet Rivas—ASA President—informed the participants that the event was catered with orange chicken and white rice. For dessert, they provided three different pocky flavors: cookies n’ cream, strawberry, and chocolate.

“Henna is a plant based paste used traditionally to celebrate events like family gatherings and weddings,” said Linet Rivas, junior in biology and global studies.

The ASA showed traditional henna designs to inspire students to try them out or create their own. Some participants drew intricate designs while others went more simplistic.

“Henna Night is a cultural awareness event that opens people’s curiosities to these things,” said Mariangle Morales-Aparicio, senior in public health.
