INDIANAPOLIS — Marian University’s Department of Music & Theatre brought Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House to life from Nov. 7-10, captivating audiences with its compelling performances and powerful storyline. Directed by Laura Baltz, the founder and artistic director of The Point Theatre—known as the Midwest’s largest children’s theatre. The production marked a high point in Marian’s fall lineup. The four-day run culminated in a standing ovation on opening night, a testament to the dedication of the cast and crew.
“Laura has been an integral community partner to Marian University for many years. We were thrilled for her to direct A Doll’s House,” said Joy Mills, the production’s producer and lighting designer. Mills worked closely with Baltz and the student tech team to refine every element, creating a dynamic and immersive experience.
The chemistry among the cast members was evident throughout the production, bringing depth and authenticity to the
story’s exploration of marriage, self-identity, and societal constraints. Audience members expressed their enthusiasm for the powerful performances and high production quality. Wynter Hurt, a student who attended both Friday and Saturday shows, shared her excitement: “I loved it. The plot twist was plot twisting. The acting was phenomenal, and the story was just so juicy. I’m so glad that I went!”
Mills echoed the praise, highlighting the commitment and hard work of the students. “I hope that people come to see the show to see all the hard work the students put into this,” she said.
As the run concluded, A Doll’s House continued to generate praise, both for the hard work of Marian’s students and the skilled direction of Baltz. The production has set a high standard for future performances, showcasing the collaborative spirit and artistic talent within Marian University’s Theatre Department.
